Name Server not configured

Symptom
The Visual Composer, when connected to NWDI, displays the Software Components and Development Components as expected but does not display the models inside them.
The default trace shows an error containing the following exception: “com.sap.di.sdic.exception.DiRemoteServerException: Name Server not configured”.
This happens although there is a Name Server configured – the SLD either is enabled [...]
