Name Server not configured

Symptom

The Visual Composer, when connected to NWDI, displays the Software Components and Development Components as expected but does not display the models inside them.
The default trace shows an error containing the following exception: “com.sap.di.sdic.exception.DiRemoteServerException: Name Server not configured”.
This happens although there is a Name Server configured – the SLD either is enabled as Name Server for NWDI itself or points to another SLD that is enabled as Name Server.

Other terms

Name Server, VC, SDIC, Development Configuration, NWDI, Development Infrastructure, DiRemoteServerException

Reason and Prerequisites

This symptom occurs if the Name Server gets configured/enabled after the Development Configuration was created/edited the last time. The reason for that is that the information about the Name Server is not included in the Development Configuration.

Solution

The Development Configuration simply needs to get updated. Hence open the Landscape Configurator in the CMS Web UI and select the corresponding track. Now switch to “Change” mode, do a minor modification (e.g. in the track description) and click on “Save”. In this way the information about the Name Server will be added to the Development Configuration.
