SAP EP – Netweaver Portal

Symptom

When navigating to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Universal Worklist & Workflow -> Universal Worklist the following error occurs:
“The specified root item cannot be retrieved from the configuration. Correct the entry before trying again.”

Reason and Prerequisites

The error occurs because of a navigation link that was set in previous versions, when the UWL was still using functionality from KM for the administration page. It is not possible to remove the link with an update, therefore two UWL administration pages, one working and the other one showing the mentioned error message, are listed.
Affected versions:
o SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (formerly named 2004s) SP 10 and above

Solution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:
Go to the following location:
Go to PCD content:
Go to Portal Content -> Portal Administrators
Go to Super Administrators
Open the Super Administrator object
Under the Super Administrator tab from within the iview,
Go to System Configuration
Go to Universal Worklist and Workflow
Universal Worklist and Workflow list
Click on Universal Worklist and preview
If you the following error, this is the
faulty page and can be deleted:
“The specified root item cannot be retrieved
from the configuration. Correct the entry before trying again.”
Go to Portal Content -> Portal Administrators
Go to System Administrators.
Open the System Administrator object.
Under the System Administrator tab from within the iview,
Go to System Configuration
Go to Universal Worklist and Workflow
Expand the first Universal Worklist and Workflow list
Click on Universal Worklist page and click the preview button
If the error (see above) is visible again, this is the faulty page.
Delete the page.
